On June 10, 2004, the day after I first met with the person
I refer to as the Gray Eminence, he left me a voicemail
message asking me for, among other things, a memorandum,
not longer than two pages, covering everything I had told
him the previous day. My two-page memorandum to the Gray
Eminence, redacted to conceal his identity and those of
